Reading material....

The first link provides some helpful slides on the nervous system and understanding the window of tolerance which has huge relevance when working with past trauma.

The slides on the second link provide some very relevant information about the way memory affects the brain, body and the nervous system. Very often in counselling and ministry we may encourage a person to remember past trauma and to share this with us. These memories may however only reveal what is known to the person at a conscious, explicit level. Alongside our explicit memories our brain and body is also holding sensory and implicit memories( often unconscious and outside our awareness) that are there waiting to be triggered in a potentially overwhelming way.

The attached sheet on the ‘Three stages of working with trauma’ demonstrates an overview of what is recognised as ‘gold standard’ when working with trauma. Whilst in the UK we lack clinical guidelines from NICE ( National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) on a model for working with trauma, a three phase model is promoted by both ESTD ( European Society for Trauma and Dissociation) and the Blue Knot Foundation, whose practice guidelines for working with complex trauma and trauma informed care are both recognised as an accepted clinical source by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
Peer Supervision Workshop
Next date to be arranged...

If you would like a Training Day or Peer Supervision Workshop near you please contact tag for more information.
tag trustees Sue Berry and Philippa Dryland are hosting further peer supervision workshops at The Willows Centre in Swindon.
This will be an opportunity for members to meet, share and experiment in a safe, held environment.

Do you have techniques or ‘cases’ you’d like to consider, expertise you’d like to offer, questions you’ve been desperate to ask or perhaps you are just missing some vital interaction with peers?
Our hope is that you will experience a day of curiosity and discovery, as we share thoughts and explore our work together.
These workshops are designed for counsellors or therapists working with complex trauma and dissociation, and our aim is to ensure a mindful, well held space for you to safely explore and expand your ways of working with others.
We'd like the workshop to be contained and structured, however some time will be given at the beginning to ensure it meets your individual needs.
We hope these days will provide a wonderful opportunity to meet other professionals and together allow you to experiment and find freedom in using and sharing both new, and commonly known methods as we pool together our individual skills and resources.
